After fleeing Ethiopia during the civil war, Ethiopia-born, Eritrean entrepreneur Russom Woldemichael landed in South Africa, learning fashion and retail selling clothing in the streets of Johannesburg, eventually opening up two stores. Today he is the founder of Ottawa-based Barcon Getta, a maker of men’s shoe and leather goods, made by hand from Ethiopian leather.
