West Elm LibertyVillage, has partnered up with my Black Designers of Canada index platform to highlight and honour the exceptional talent within the platform and the Canadian Black design community as a whole. This collaboration represents a significant stride towards advancing diversity and inclusion within the design industry, providing a platform to amplify the voices and creativity of Canadian Black designers.
I believe that collaborating with West Elm Liberty Village is a significant milestone, symbolizing the acknowledgment of our talent and a step towards a more inclusive design industry. Yaw tony
Yaw Tony is a designer & artist based in Toronto. I trained in Architecture, graphic design and Fine Art, and work in those areas as well as products designs and creative consulting. My work has been exhibited in Germany, Spain, Netherlands, Atlanta, Austin, Toronto and has been published widely; .Cent Magazine 2016, Making Africa; A Continent of Contemporary Design 2015, and cover feature of Designlines 2018. Yaw Tony is the founder of Elohim Studio (Architectural/Conceptual Studio) and Life Liveth In Me, LLiM (textiles and visual communication projects).
DAEJ DESIGNS
Based in Toronto, founder, and principal designer, Daej Hamilton started this company at 22 years old. Luxuriating in her 11th year of woodworking, her pieces reflect the timeless, mid-century, modern aesthetic. Using some of the finest woods, her work is designed and hand crafted to complement form and function.
SHARON OKE
Sharon Oke’s jewelry making journey was ignited by her mother who took her to a rosary making class using fresh water pearls, Swarovski crystals and sterling silver components. Founded in 2013, the Shar Oke design company was a line inspired by Sharon’s modern take on her rich Afro-Caribbean background which infused the bold colors, patterns and architecture of the both cultures.
